Wine bottle light

Who knew that a bottle would serve as a perfect decoration? Well, let's get hands on work because you just need an empty bottle, a drill, safety glasses and gloves, 1/2″ glass drill bit, masking tape and short strand of Christmas lights (with a plug only on one end).51e922d9c9907

  1. Wash and remove all stickers from the bottle (if desired).

  2. Place a piece of tape on the area you want to drill, so the drill bit will remain more stable.

  3. Put on gloves and glasses and start drilling. Do not make a lot of pressure to not break the glass. Be patient because it takes a little bit!

  4. Wash the bottle and let dry.

  5. Gradually introduce the Christmas lights through the hole ... and ready to decorate and surprise!

Mini Ham & Cheese Quinoa Cups

I had this whole spiel ready about how real men do, in fact, eat quiche, as demonstrated by Ben who housed nearly a dozen Mini Ham & Cheese Quinoa Cups that resemble wee baby quiche for dinner, but then I remembered that quiche have crust and Mini Ham & Cheese Quinoa Cups do not, so in reality they’re more like mini frittatas and well, all was tragically lost.sd34dIngredients:
2 cups cooked quinoa (about 3/4 cup uncooked)
2 eggs
2 egg whites
1 cup zucchini, shredded
1 cup shredded sharp cheddar cheese
1/2 cup diced ham
1/4 cup parsley, chopped
2 Tablespoons parmesan cheese
2 green onions, sliced
salt & pepper

HOW TO MAKE THE WORLD’S BEST BODY BUTTER

I have just started testing out different recipes to make my own skin/hair products and I was hoping to find the perfect combination so I could make something for my mom for Christmas. This looks perfect and so pretty!

I love creamy body butters. Living in a climate that gets quite cold and dry in the winter, they are a must in my house. But two things have always bothered me. They can be quite expensive and also, full of ingredients that are less than desirable for your skin and health. bodybutterbest-250x498

  • 1 cup organic raw shea butter

  • 1/2 cup coconut oil

  • 1/2 cup almond oil

Raspberry Lemonade Crumb Muffins

Ben got so excited that he stuffed an entire muffin into his mouth shortly after they came out of the oven (these are not mini, mind you.) And while the muffin itself had cooled down slightly, the plump raspberries inside were still molten, rendering him teary eyed and only able to squawk out a tormented,

HAWT…!

HAWT…!

HAWT…!

as he searched for a cool pocket among the blazing berries that were exploding against the roof of his mouth. I laughed ’til I cried while patting him on the back and trying to convince him to just spit the dang thing out. He refused. Hurt so good, or something like that

fg56gIngredients:
1/4 cup butter, room temperature
1/4 cup unsweetened applesauce
1 cup sugar
2 eggs
1/3 cup milk
1 Tablespoon lemon zest (about 2 lemons worth)

1-1/2 teaspoons baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt

Splattered Nails

No need for a steady hand for this manicure which can impossibly go wrong. After applying a base color, dip a very thin straw into a different color of nail polish for the splatters. Aim for your nails and blow through the straw! Afterwards, remove the splatterings around your nails with a q-tip and some nail polish remover and you're done!loveaestheticssplatternails3

DIY ANTI WRINKLE EYE STICK

This is a simple recipe..You could substitute any oil for coconut oil……olive oil, jojoba, etc. You could just use all Meadowfoam as well. It’s a nice light oil that does wonders for delicate skin!

Once you hit mid 30's it's time to use an eye cream.  To be honest, I have never felt the need to use and eye cream.  Now, I have the need.  Fine lines have made a home around my eyes, not to mention puffiness and dark circles.  Blame it on the kids, not enough water, bad eating habits, age-whatever it is, it's time to replenish and nourish that delicate skin and prevent future lines from cropping up too prematurely!eye-stick

HOW TO MAKE SOLID PERFUME STICKS

Every time there is a new bundle sale, I go crazy making natural body care products, new recipes, and home remedies. I just can’t help it. I love that so many resources are available  that clearly explain how to do these things at home. It’s wonderful.

Creamy Garlic Shells

If I wanted that much salt I’d grab a handful of delicious Lays – not a wee scoop of pasta!

Anyways, you know what they say – if you want something done right, you’ve got to do it yourself, so ditch the packet and make your own creamy, crowd-pleasing pasta side for dinner tonight like Creamy Garlic Shells!

df45dfIngredients:
8oz mini shells pasta
1 Tablespoon extra virgin olive oil
1 Tablespoon butter
2 garlic cloves, minced
2 Tablespoons flour
3/4 cup chicken broth
3/4 cup milk (I used skim)
salt & pepper
1/4 cup grated parmesan cheese
1/2 teaspoon garlic powder (not garlic salt)
2 teaspoons parsley flakes

Parlez-Vous Croissant?

The croissant has evolved…into a crescent roll.  Let me explain.  From the time I was in college until about 10 years ago, croissants were flaky, layered, buttery rolls of heaven.  No matter where I bought them, they were all of the above, even the supermarket bakeries.  I remember stopping at some a few mornings a week before work, and opening the plexiglass case, crumpled tissue in hand like a baseball mitt, ready to grab the freshest ones before anyone else could.  Even the BK ‘croissandwich’ was flaky, with buttery layers!ds34sd

Made Over Chest of Drawers

I love the way Ralph Lauren always add a modern twist to a classic; he always finds a way to make the old feel new again.  Inspired by his style I made over an old chest of drawers I picked up at a local thrift shop.  Being the very bad blogger that I am, I completely forgot to take a before picture.  You'll have to image what this looked like before.  It was painted a taupe color and had white ceramic knobs with pink flowers on them.  Um, yeah, it wasn't cute.  But you'll just have to take my word on that.  I decided to give this mid century modern chest a classic update, and I'm pretty happy with the end result.madeoverchest

I used a combination of things for this makeover.  I spray painted everything but the drawers in my favorite gold spray paint and used Krylon's Regal Blue for the drawers.  Once dry, I sanded the whole thing down and applied a dark walnut stain over the drawers.

Metal Chips on White Nails

Today I did this silver chipped manicure with a couple of left over bits of metallic nail foil.
These nail wraps come in packages that contain 12 foils, two too many. I finally figured out what to do with the spare foils I still had lying around. I covered parts of my nails with asymmetrically cut bits of foil to make a geometric transition between the metallic silver and the white matte painted nails.loveaestheticssilverchippednails

Rose Gold Nail Piercing

A manicure that is on the edge of bad taste and tackiness.
But I think that one single rose gold ring per hand through a white nail looks pretty badass.
This gives me so many high school flashbacks.
One tiny piercing on its own is cool enough, so I don't even bother putting on any more jewelry around my wrists or fingers. 51f333b081901How to get the hole through your nail:
Lay your hand on a flat surface with your palm facing up, and from the back of your nail carefully 'screw' the pin through with a bit of pressure. If you keep turning the pin between your index finger and thumb you'll get a hole after a minute or two. Be careful not to poke it through as it can cause cracks in your nail. Then put a tiny ring through it, which you can get at any shop where they sell jewelry parts and beads, I got my rose gold rings at Beadies Amsterdam.

SUNBURST CORN HUSK

Who would have thought that corn husk can be used to achieve a delightful Mid-Century modern look? To make this wreath, you simply wrap the corn husk in a sunburst manner around a wreath form. Hang and enjoy!527081f58ddd8
