No need for a steady hand for this manicure which can impossibly go wrong. After applying a base color, dip a very thin straw into a different color of nail polish for the splatters. Aim for your nails and blow through the straw! Afterwards, remove the splatterings around your nails with a q-tip and some nail polish remover and you're done!

Today I did this silver chipped manicure with a couple of left over bits of metallic nail foil.
These nail wraps come in packages that contain 12 foils, two too many. I finally figured out what to do with the spare foils I still had lying around. I covered parts of my nails with asymmetrically cut bits of foil to make a geometric transition between the metallic silver and the white matte painted nails.

A manicure that is on the edge of bad taste and tackiness.
But I think that one single rose gold ring per hand through a white nail looks pretty badass.
This gives me so many high school flashbacks.
One tiny piercing on its own is cool enough, so I don't even bother putting on any more jewelry around my wrists or fingers. How to get the hole through your nail:
Lay your hand on a flat surface with your palm facing up, and from the back of your nail carefully 'screw' the pin through with a bit of pressure. If you keep turning the pin between your index finger and thumb you'll get a hole after a minute or two. Be careful not to poke it through as it can cause cracks in your nail. Then put a tiny ring through it, which you can get at any shop where they sell jewelry parts and beads, I got my rose gold rings at Beadies Amsterdam.

Sure there are tons of fun nail products and polishes available these days that come with texture built right into the bottle, but that’s no fun for a DIYer, now is it?

• This simple, classic holly design can spice up all sorts of christmas manis! It's a great way to fill empty space on the nail.


• If you don't have rhinestones, just use some red polish and a dotting tool.

• You can reverse this so Rudolph is at the tip of your nail, rather than the base. I just like to have his little face looking at me! :)


• Use a large dotting tool for the white eye dots, it will help keep the shape uniform.


• Try not to make the dot for the nose quite as big a blob as I did...it took forever to dry!

 

• Apply your topcoat and let it dry for about one to two minutes.


• Lay out generous drops of the main shade of nail polish you will be using in your foil paper.


• Add one to two drops of white nail polish to the first shade you will be making. Three to four drops of white to the second one, five to six drops to the third and six to eight drops to the fourth. NOTE: don’t try to do all of them at once because the polish will dry in the foil paper. I laid them out in a line only for the picture and so you guys can see the increase of white polish in each one.


• Make sure you mix it well with your mixing tool and try to stay on one spot instead of all over the paper. Compare the shades, if you feel like it needs more white add extra drop or two.


• Apply with your old nail polish brush make your index finger the shade that has the least drops of white. This way the shade will gradually be lighter by the time you get to your pinky.


• Clean the brush in a paper towel every time you change shades this way the brush can grab the correct color.


• When all four fingers are done go ahead and paint your thumb with the main nail polish. This will be the only nail that does not have a mixture with the white polish.


• Let it dry for about one to two minutes and apply your topcoat.

FOR THIS TUTORIAL, YOU WILL NEED:

1. A bobby pin


2. Black nail polish


3. Gold nail polish


4. Turquoise nail polish


5. A matte top coat

1. Start with a base coat. After applying your base coat, apply a layer of black nail polish. If your nail polish doesn’t cover properly, add another layer.


2. After your nail polish dried, apply a matte topcoat. It’s important you let the coats dry! You don’t want to ruin your mani, do you?


3. After your matte topcoat has dried, you’re going to start with making the color for your polka dots. Get a piece of paper and let a few drops of the gold nail polish drop on it.


4. Into the drop of gold nail polish, you drip some of the turquoise nail polish. The proportion has to approximately be 1/3 of turquoise nail polish and 2/3 of gold nail polish.


5. After that, carefully mix the two colors. Mix them like the picture and then stop. If you mix them too much, you get one new color. But that’s not what we want! We want to see both colors in the mix and in the dots.


6. Get some of the mix on your bobby pin. The effect is most beautiful if you can still see both colors separately in the dot.


7. Dot away!


8. You can randomly put dots on your nail or you can put them in a structure like on the picture. Can you see the effect of the two colors?


9. Apply on all nails and you’re done! Make sure you let your nail polish dry. It takes a while before the dots dry. Enjoy your polka mani!

These are the steps:

1. Apply a base coat and let it dry. You always have to apply a base coat before applying any other nail polishes on your nails. Don’t forget to protect your nails girls! Apply a red nail polish on all nails and let it dry. I’m using the China Glaze #1018 Winter berry nail polish in this tutorial.


2. Apply a red glittery nail polish on 1/2 of your nails (see pictures in this blogpost). Let this dry and go further with the next step. I’m using the China Glaze #1019 Ring in the red.


3. Apply a cute golden bow sticker on each nail and press it with a toothpick a little bit. You can also draw bows on your nails with a toothpick or dotting pen if you don’t have bow stickers. Apply a top coat and let it dry.

I started with the sparkle as I wanted the lights to be on top of that and I did two coats of it.  Next, was the black wire for the lights having it range in wavy lines was best.  If you don't have nail polish stripers then any black polish will work with your own striper brush or even easier is using black acrylic paint here too.  I started with yellow lights on all my nails one per nail, following through for each color.  For the bigger nails/fingers I after put in a second color of choice to fill it up better.   Once the acrylic paint is dry I added a little high-light of white for an effect on the tips of the lights.   Try this easy design out.  Let me see how you did.  You can also, check out: cutepolish  her site is amazing and see how I get the inspiration to do this design.
